I like my chosen comic more because it enables me to see the whole big picture of the story compared with the original one, ‘Base’. Beginning with a telescopic view and embedding with window frames, which can be regarded as prominent elements, the comic looks more mysterious because some of the backgrounds and words in the speech balloons and thought bubbles are blocked by the window frames. These can tremendously raise the curiosity of readers and trigger them to continue to read. Under the telescopic view, the man becomes the focal point of the comic. I can understand that the man will be the main character in an easier way.
Compared with the original one, the chosen comic includes one more character, the woman who asks for the time. The presence of the woman reveals the relationship of the speech balloons ‘What time is it?’ with the man more clearly. The interaction between the man and the woman is enhanced. The story development thus becomes more coherent and interesting.
I am involved!
I like this comic particularly because it can let the readers peer through the windows of a house, which makes me feel that I am involved in the story development. This makes the storyline of the comic become more empathetic. Having emotional interaction with readers marks the success of a comic. This is a good illustration of effective visual communication.
