So, you can see there are lots of posts and discussions in mass media, for example, the Internet. Drawing political comics is a way to express the opinion there.
The comic is under Daniel Kurtzman’s hand posted in Political Humor at Week 9-15, June, 2013. In the comic, there is a man reading fathers’ day card in front of computer at night, however, the airplane with a spy camera disturb him. The plane with the symbol of “NSA” takes out the spy camera to see what the man is doing, and says that “your kids made it? Cute!” It is just like that they are close friends, but from the face of the man, you can see that he is annoying and discontent with what the plane do.
Effectiveness
In the comic, there is clear explanation for the situation and author’s point of view. By using exaggeration, the author draws the plane in large size and put it on the window, shows that the monitoring of NSA is in everyone in anytime. The US citizens are not free to do their own things. Even just reading card made by their children, it is discovered that the NSA is still looking at you. Also, there is labeling in the comic. The symbol of NSA is shown on the plane. Therefore, we can relate it to the spy problem by the NSA recently. Moreover, there should be a sense of irony. The US is a country with high technology, and their government always claims that they are democratic. However, the comic above make a big contrast and tells the public that the government is lying.
